Afrolatinidades: Marta Moreno Vega, PhD

 
 
The Latina/o Studies Program presents a talk by Marta Moreno Vega, PhD: “Afrolatinidades” about the experience of Latinas/os of African descent and issues pertaining to the African diaspora in the Americas. MARTA MORENO VEGA is the founder and president of the Caribbean Cultural Cen-ter African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) in New York City. She has been a staunch advocate of cultural education and ...inte-gration for years, as former director of El Museo del Barrio, and among the found-ers of the Association of Hispanic Arts and the Network of Centers of Color and the Roundtable of Institutions of Colors. She has conducted extensive research in Yoru-ba belief systems in the African Diaspora and has organized numerous internation-al conferences uniting scholars and lead-ing experts on African Diaspora religions. She is also the author of The Altar of My Soul: The Living Traditions of Santeria (2001) and When the Spirits Dance Mam-bo: Growing Up Nuyorican in El Barrio (2004); and coeditor of Women Warriors of the Afro-Latina Diaspora (2012).
